Introduction to English and the Common Core State Standards
English Language Arts instruction and assessment is in alignment with the Common Core State Standards in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. The standards articulate rigorous grade-level expectations which are not always a separate focus, but often will be several standards addressed in a single task. The Standards define what all students are expected to know and be able to do by the end of each grade in order to prepare students for college and careers. However, the Standards do not describe all that can or should be taught (Common Core State Standards, 2010). One may view specific standards for each grade level by clicking on the buttons below.

About the English teacher: Having a classroom filled with "M & M" characters lends itself to a "M"arvelous and "M"eaningful" year in Mrs. Bodily's English classes. Students have taken the opportunity to count all the M & M's in the room and the most recent number totals 57! Mrs. Bodily has been in education for 37 years. Her experiences include teaching English to 7th and 8th graders at OCJH over the past 15 years. Experiences also include teaching 5th and 6th grades, TSA (assistant principal) and A.L.L. teacher at Lindon Elementary, and serving as a Gifted and Talented Coordinator for Alpine School District. She received a Masters in Education from USU with emphasis on writing and an Administrative Ed. Masters . Mrs. Bodily and her husband love to vacation, golf, swim and read. Mrs. Bodily has three wonderful children, five fun-loving grandchildren and one spoiled dog.
